Best markets in Lisbon

Markets have been around since the ancient times and there are no signs of them losing their popularity anytime soon. Well of course! They have something to offer that online shops and shopping centres can’t – original and rare items at great prices, organic food from local farmers and a day out in the sun. We have visited a few and here they are – best markets in Lisbon!

Located near Cais do Sodre, it’s one of the most visited markets in Lisbon. Great collection of bars, restaurants and cafes serving traditional and international foods and drinks. They also organise cooking workshops for kids and adults!

We recommend Manteigaria for some of the best Pastel de Nata in Lisbon.

Campo de Ourique market has been open for over 70 years and has been very popular ever since. Similar to Time Out market in its layout, it’s a spot known more to locals. Here you can find amazing produce from local farmers, Portuguese seafood restaurants and numerous bars or cafes.

They offer free wifi – perfect for a casual lunch time meeting.

Last weekend of every month, Praça da Figueira fills with people for Figueira Marca-te. It’s a traditional Portuguese market with regional products and artisans. Portuguese food tasting, traditional breads from various parts of the country that goes perfectly paired with cheeses from Alentejo and Serra da Estrela.

It’s right in the city centre – perfect addition to a weekend shopping trip.

Running since 17th century, this flea market is held every Tuesday and Saturday, from dawn to the early afternoon. Hand-made artisan goods, vintage clothes and accessories, CD’s, books, coins, military objects, antiques and furniture are all on display here. An occasional bargain is still possible in one of the most popular markets in Lisbon!

Best spot for unique accessories or home decor pieces.

LX Factory is certainly one of the hotspots of Lisbon. Amazing bars and restaurants in Lisbon are located in LX surrounded by cafes, lovely clothing and accessory shops and some of the most famous Portuguese street art. Every Sunday it hosts a market worth visiting for independent designer pieces and amazing food in Lisbon.

Many artists host workshops in their studios within the premises. Check them out here.

Running since 2006, the creative market is a launching pad for national and international artists. It always takes place on the first weekend of each month in Jardim da Estrela and has free admission.

Market with a modern touch – find amazing independent designer pieces in one of the most beautiful parks in Lisbon.

Jerónimos Monastery gardens are taken over by the Belém Antiques and Crafts Market every Sunday. It’s dedicated to antiques – anything from old books and records to collectable coins and stamps. You can also find some amazing cameras and other photography equipment, apparently, formerly owned by spies.

These were some of our favourite markets in Lisbon. Looking for other exciting activities?
